How it works

Picking the right aspect ratio
- 1:1 for profile pictures, Instagram posts and marketplace listings.
- 4:5 for tall Instagram posts, which take more space in the feed.
- 16:9 for YouTube thumbnails, slides and laptop wallpapers.
- 9:16 for Stories, Reels, TikTok and phone wallpapers.
- 3:2 and 4:3 match most camera and phone sensors, so crops keep a natural look.
Composition tips
The grid divides the box into thirds. Placing a face, horizon or subject on one of the lines, rather than dead centre, usually makes a photo feel more balanced. Leave a little space in the direction a person is looking or moving. When cropping people, avoid cutting exactly at joints such as knees, elbows or wrists; crop slightly above or below them instead.
Cropping throws pixels away, so a tight crop from a small image can look soft when shown large. Start from the original, full-resolution photo whenever possible. To change the pixel size after cropping, use Image Resizer.
