The classic meme style
The familiar meme look is white capital letters with a thick black outline, set in a heavy condensed typeface, at the top and bottom of the picture. The outline keeps text readable on any background, from a bright sky to a dark room. This generator uses Impact where your device has it and falls back to similar bold fonts, and wraps and shrinks long captions so they never run off the edge.
Writing captions that land
- Set up the joke in the top line and deliver it in the bottom line.
- Shorter is funnier: most good captions are under ten words.
- Pick a picture with an expressive face or an obvious situation; it does half the work.
- Leave the middle of the picture clear, since the captions sit at the top and bottom.
Using images responsibly
Only use pictures you have the right to use: your own photos, screenshots you made, or images whose licence allows reuse. Famous meme templates are usually still under copyright, although sharing them for commentary and parody is often tolerated. Do not use photos of private people without their permission, and never use memes to harass anyone.

Can I make animated GIF memes?
Not yet. GIFs are loaded as their first frame and saved as a still image.

Impact is not installed on every device, so a similar heavy font is used instead.
