How it works
- Add a workbookDrop an .xlsx file. It is opened in your browser with ExcelJS, an open-source spreadsheet library.
- Check the previewEvery visible sheet is shown as a table with its fonts, fills, borders, merged cells and number formats. Formulas show their last calculated values.
- Set up the pageChoose all sheets or one, portrait or landscape, gridlines on or off, and whether wide sheets shrink to fit the page width.
- Save as PDFClick Convert and pick Save as PDF in the print dialog. Each sheet starts on a new page and text stays selectable.
Why convert spreadsheets to PDF
A spreadsheet is a working file: columns can be resized, cells edited and formulas recalculated, and it looks different in Excel, Numbers, LibreOffice and Google Sheets. A PDF is a finished document. It looks the same on every device, prints predictably, and cannot be changed by accident, which is why invoices, price lists, timesheets, reports and budgets are usually shared as PDFs. It also avoids sending hidden sheets, comments or the formulas behind your numbers.
Getting a tidy PDF
- Wide sheets: keep "Fit to page width" on and use landscape. Columns shrink proportionally so nothing is cut off.
- Long sheets: rows flow onto as many pages as needed, and a row is never split across two pages.
- One sheet only: choose it in the Sheets menu. Hidden sheets are never included.
- Clean output: in the print dialog, turn off "Headers and footers" so the browser does not add the date and page title.
What is supported
Cell values, text, numbers with common formats (thousands separators, decimals, percentages and currency symbols), dates, bold, italic and underlined text, font sizes and colours, solid cell fills, borders, alignment, wrapped text, merged cells, column widths, row heights and hidden rows and columns. Charts, images, conditional formatting and pivot table layouts are not drawn. Formulas are not recalculated: the PDF shows the values Excel saved in the file, so save the workbook in Excel after editing.
Old binary .xls files from Excel 97 to 2003 cannot be read. Open them in Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice and save as .xlsx first.
Frequently asked questions
Is my spreadsheet uploaded?
No. The workbook is read and converted in your browser. It never leaves your device, which matters for payroll, finance and customer data.
Why does a formula cell show the wrong number?
The tool shows the result Excel stored when the file was last saved. If the file came from a program that does not store results, open and save it in Excel or Google Sheets first.
Can I convert a CSV file?
Open the CSV in Excel or Google Sheets and save it as .xlsx, or use our CSV to JSON and JSON to PDF tools for data tables.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. On iPhone and Android, the print dialog offers Save as PDF or Save to Files.
