PDF to Word (DOCX)
Get the text of a PDF into an editable Word document, with paragraphs, headings and page breaks rebuilt. Works best with PDFs created from documents rather than scans.

How it works
- Add a PDFDrop a PDF that you can select text in with a normal PDF reader.
- Read the textpdf.js extracts every piece of text with its position and size.
- Rebuild structureText is grouped into lines and paragraphs; larger text becomes headings; each PDF page starts a new Word page.
- DownloadOpen the .docx in Word, Google Docs, Pages or LibreOffice and edit.
What converts well, and what does not
A PDF stores text as positioned fragments rather than paragraphs, so every converter has to guess the original structure. This tool focuses on getting the words right: reports, letters, articles, essays and contracts usually convert cleanly into editable paragraphs with headings you can restyle. Layout-heavy files such as brochures, multi-column newsletters, forms and complex tables come out as plain text in reading order, and images are not included.
Scanned PDFs are pictures of pages with no text inside, so there is nothing to extract; they need OCR (optical character recognition), which this tool does not do yet. A quick test: if you cannot highlight words in your PDF reader, the file is a scan.
Tips for the best result
- If you have the original Word or Google Docs file, use that instead; converting back from PDF always loses some formatting.
- After opening the result, apply Word's built-in heading styles to rebuild a table of contents.
- To convert only part of a long PDF, extract those pages with Split PDF first.
- Check numbers and names after converting documents with unusual fonts, where the PDF may map characters oddly.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is read by pdf.js and the Word file is built by the open-source docx library, both in your browser. Confidential documents never leave your device.
Why is there no text in my Word file?
The PDF is most likely a scan or an image-only export. Without OCR there is no text to extract.
Will fonts and colours be kept?
Text sizes are kept and larger text becomes headings, but fonts and colours use Word's defaults so the document is easy to restyle.
