What is preserved when you merge
Merging copies each page as it is, so text stays selectable, vector graphics stay sharp and images keep their original quality. Page sizes are kept too, which means a document can mix A4, Letter and landscape pages. Interactive features that belong to a whole document rather than a page, such as bookmarks, form field names that clash, or digital signatures, may not carry over: a signature is only valid for the exact file that was signed, so merging a signed PDF invalidates the signature in the new file.
Because nothing is uploaded, merging is also a safe choice for contracts, medical records, bank statements and other confidential documents.
Tips
- Need only some pages from a file? Extract them with Split PDF first, then merge the result.
- Want to add photos or scans? Turn them into a PDF with JPG to PDF, then merge.
- Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked in a PDF reader before merging.
- Give the merged file a clear name after downloading, such as "2026-tax-documents.pdf".
Frequently asked questions
Is there a limit on files or size?
No fixed limit. Merging runs in your browser's memory, so very large documents (hundreds of megabytes) depend on your device.
Will the merged PDF be larger than the originals combined?
It is usually about the same size as the originals added together. Shared fonts are not deduplicated between files.
Are my PDFs kept anywhere?
No. Files are read and combined locally using the open-source pdf-lib library. Close the tab and they are gone.
Common problems and fixes
- "Password-protected" error: the file has an open or edit password. Open it in your PDF reader, enter the password and save an unprotected copy, then merge that copy.
- Pages appear in the wrong order: the list is merged from top to bottom. Use the arrows next to each file before clicking Merge.
- Form fields stop working: fields with the same name in different files can clash. Fill in and flatten (print to PDF) forms before merging them.
